Siemens: 210 Million Euro Order from Mexico
02.03.2007 [10:49]:: Siemens to supply equipment for expansion of the
smelter and modernization of the plate mill of AHMSA

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I & S) of the Mexican
steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico SAB de C.V. (AHMSA) received several
orders for equipment for the expansion of the steel mill and the
modernization of the plate mill in Monclova. The project includes new
facilities for steel works, dust and casting as well as the
modernization and upgrading of the existing plate mill into a Steckel
rolling mill. With the completion of the entire project is mid-2009,
AHMSA's production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of heavy plate may
extend to one million tons. The order volume amounts to 210 million
euros (275 million U.S. dollars).

AHMSA, one of the leading iron and steel producer in Mexico, operates
in Monclova, Coahuila, an integrated steel plant. The company mainly
produces flat products - in 2006 over three million tons - and is the
only producer of heavy plate in Mexico. The product range includes
products for flat hot-rolled and cold rolled strips, tinplate,
tin-free steel and plate. The plate is in shipbuilding, uses the
construction and oil industries and the manufacture of machinery,
tools, pressure vessels and containers.

In order to consolidate its leading position in the regional steel
market, AHMSA has decided to expand its steel production by 1.2
million tons per year. As part of this expansion project, the
production capacity for heavy plate and hot strip will rise to one
million tons.

Siemens is responsible for developing, engineering and supply of
equipment for the new steel plant and the modernization and upgrading
of heavy plate rolling mill at a Steckel rolling mill. Supplied with
an electric arc furnace includes a capacity of 1.2 million tons per
year, a 150-ton ladle furnace including an alloying agent system, a
dust removal system, a single-strand slab caster, can be cast with the
slab with a width of 2438 millimeters, a Steckel rolling mill and the
associated automation systems, energy and water supply installations
and customer training. Siemens VAI Metals Technologies GmbH & Co,
Linz, Austria supplies the metallurgical equipment, the UK, Siemens
VAI Metals Technologies UK Limited, the Steckel rolling mill.
